Prolific film producer who is known as the head of the Weinstein Company and former co-chairman of Miramax Films. He has earned renown for his executive producing credits on a litany of blockbusters and horror films, including The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Chicago, and Gangs of New York. 

Before Fame

He began his producing career by promoting rock concerts independently in the 1970s. He helped to found Miramax in the late 1970s. 


He earned his first Academy Award for Best Picture as an executive producer for The English Patient in 1996. He served as executive producer on the critically successful films Shakespeare in Love, Cold Mountain, and The King's Speech. 

Family Life

His older brother is film producer Harvey Weinstein. His parents' names are Max and Miriam.
