One-half of the folk music duo Bud and Travis who helped popularize Spanish language songs in the United States.
He did not start studying music formally until his college years when he took a guitar class.
As part of Bud and Travis, he performed in the Hollywood Bowl with Peter Paul and Mary who also sang his song "If I Were Free."
He grew up in Nogales, Arizona, which was close to the Mexican border. His mother was a teacher and his father was a social worker.
His and his partner's good looks got them invited on many television shows, including The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, which Ozzie Nelson co-hosted.
