Before Fame

He played college football before committing to ministry studies. He earned a B.A. at Houston Baptist University, an M.Div. at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a D.Min. at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary with additional study at the University of Oxford. He published his first book The Ever-Loving Truth: Can Faith Thrive in a Post-Christian Culture? in 2004. He founded Grace Family Baptist Church in 2006.

He trained in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and often referenced lessons from athletics when speaking about discipline and leadership. He was a lecturer and the Dean of Theology at African Christian University in Zambia.

His full name is Voddie Tharon Baucham Jr. He was born in Los Angeles, California, and raised by a single mother. He married Married Bridget Linette Baucham in 1989. He and Bridget had 9 children together. He passed away at age 56 after an emergency medical incident.
