German race car driver of the 1970s and 1980s. He competed for the Fiat, Porsche, Audi, Lancia, and Opel teams, winning fourteen World Rally Competition events.
During his teens, he worked as a chauffeur to a high-ranking Roman Catholic religious figure.
He won his first victory in the 1975 Acropolis (Greece) Rally. His last win was in a 1985 Sanremo (Italy) rally event.
He grew up in Regensburg, Germany. He and Christian Geistdorfer were longtime rally co-drivers.
He and Klaus Graf were fellow German race car drivers.
