American young adult author known for writing the bestselling paranormal fantasy novel Cemetery Boys along with Lost in the Never Woods, The Sunbearer Trials, and Celestial Monsters. He is also known for gaining recognition after Cemetery Boys became the first trans-centered YA novel by an openly transgender author to appear on the New York Times Best Seller list.

Before fame

He attended Mills College where he studied English and eventually earned a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing. He also studied at Portland State University before returning to Mills to complete his graduate degree. He originally began writing through fanfiction before transitioning into original fiction. He sold his debut novel Cemetery Boys to Swoon Reads which led to its publication in 2020.

Trivia

His book Cemetery Boys won the 2021 Pacific Northwest Book Award and was a finalist for the Hugo Lodestar Award. His book Cemetery Boys was a National Book Award Longlist title for Young People's Literature in 2020.
