Known for both her picture books for children and her fiction works for young adults, this Australian author and artist earned a Children's Book Council of Australia Award (CBCA) for her work Are We There Yet?: A Journey Around Australia.
After attending a boarding school in Victoria, Australia, she enrolled at The Melbourne Teachers' College. She began her career as an illustrator in the late 1970s, and her first children's book, Clive Eats Alligators, was published in 1985.
Her popular and critically-acclaimed works for children and young adults include such titles as Ernie Dances To The Didgeridoo, The Journey Home, and The Snow Pony.
She was raised on a Victoria, Australia seaside farm, and she grew up riding horses and reading novels.
She and her Australian contemporary, Mem Fox, both had successful careers as children's book authors.
