Famous for playing Geri Evans on the Channel 4 soap Family Affairs and Rochelle Barratt on the ITV series The Bill, Acton is also known for portraying Joy on Topsy and Tim and Emma Summerhayes on EastEnders.

Before being cast in her debut television role in Family Affairs, Acton appeared in a video production titled Dancers.

She married fellow English actor Ben Hull in 2007. They have two daughters, Lana and Grace.
