Jazz composer and performer known for his diversified sounds. He was featured in a cartoon strip called Barney et la note bleue.

Before Fame

Blaise Cendrars encouraged him to perform in clubs in Nice and he became popular when he worked on the soundtrack Ascenseur pour l'Échafaud with Miles Davis.


He wrote the soundtrack for Les Liaisons Dangeureuse with Thelonious Monk in 1961.

Family Life

He was raised by an American dentist-turned-inventor father and a French mother.

Wilen, who became interested in creating rock music, wrote an album dedicated to Timothy Leary in the 1960s.
