He attended King's College London and studied dentistry.
He has also commentated for tennis, including stints at the French Open and Wimbledon Championships.
He married his wife, Penny, in 1968, and they had two children.
He appeared on the BBC sketch comedy show Big Train with Phil Cornwell.
