Famous for hosting ABC Sports' popular Wide World of Sports program, this American journalist and announcer also worked for NBC's Today Show and served as President of the Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association.
After graduating from the speech program at the University of Michigan, he began his broadcasting career at Detroit's WWJ-TV NBC affiliate.
During his years as the principal announcer for Wide World of Sports, he covered the United States Open, the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship, and various Olympic events.
He grew up in Chicago, Illinois and Ann Arbor, Michigan. He and his wife, Barbara Forster, later settled in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, with their two children.
In 1972, he interviewed the famous chess player Bobby Fischer.
