Legendary NFL quarterback who was the first pick in the 1948 NFL Draft. He is best remembered for his time with the Detroit Lions from 1950 to 1958.
He was one of the best quarterbacks in University of Texas history and was eventually enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame.
He became known for The Curse of Bobby Lane. The so-called curse began when he was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers and declared that his former team, the Detroit Lions, wouldn't win again for 50 years. The Lions went on to have the worst winning percentage in the NFL for the next five decades.
He fathered two children, Rob and Alan.
He was sweet-talked by Bears owner George Halas to sign with Chicago in 1948, despite a $77,000 offer from the Baltimore Colts.
