When his first enrolled into the University of Georgia as a freshman, he was initially forced to be a walk-on student athlete. As a junior, he was eventually given a chance to make the official team and earn a scholarship.

While in high school, he also played basketball and ran track. In fact, he's North Hall High School's all-time school record holder for fastest time in the 110-meter hurdles event. During his final season at Georgia, he earned All-SEC honors.
