Irish professional road racing cyclist who is known for riding as a part of the UCI WorldTeam and the UAE Team Emirates. He is best known for having won a stage at the 2013 Tour de France and for winning the overall class at the 2010 Tour de Pologne.
He graduated from St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Technology College. In 2004, he began racing within the British national championships. Soon after in 2006, he chose to ride for Ireland. He first began racing in different amateur races in 2006. In 2008, he made his professional debut as part of the Slipstream-Chipotle team.
He has placed first at several major races and competitions including in 2008 at the Overall Route du Sud, The Tour de Pologne in 2010, and the Giro di Lombardia in 2014.
He was born and raised in Birmingham, England. He married British distance runner Jess Martin.
