Canadian man who was raised as a female after his penis was damaged due to a failed circumcision. He unknowingly acted as an experimental subject in his psychologists' investigation, called the John/Joan case. He went public with his experiences starting with an interview in the December 1997 issue of Rolling Stone magazine. He died by suicide at age 38.

At six months of age, he underwent a circumcision.
Trivia
As a child he experienced severe gender dysphoria. In 1980, at the age of fifteen, his father told him the truth about his birth. He then assumed a male identity.
Family Life
His parents were Janet and Ron Reimer. He had an identical twin named Brian. In 1990, he married Jane Fontaine, a single mother of three.
Associated With
A season six episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit was based on his life. Actor Reiley McClendon played a character inspired by him.
