Before fame
He graduated from Provincetown High School in 2005 and attended Bunker Hill Community College for approximately a year and a half. He eventually worked as a commercial fisherman as well as in landscaping, construction, and restaurants before becoming a full-time painter.

Family life
He is a third-generation Provincetown native from a multigenerational fishing family. His grandfather Norbert was a commercial fishing captain, and his great-grandparents were Portuguese immigrants who arrived in Provincetown in 1897.
