Before fame
He attended St. Peter's College in Colombo and after finishing school he moved to Melbourne, Australia, to pursue higher education. He studied accounting at university and eventually began working for one of the Big Four accounting firms. He eventually realized he was unhappy in the corporate world and in 2010 he performed at his first stand-up comedy open mic night which led him to pursue comedy as a career. His breakout came after he gained national recognition through his acting role as Ashan on the ABC workplace satire Utopia in 2017. He also began appearing regularly on panel shows like Have You Been Paying Attention? in 2017. He released his first stand-up special I Can't Feel My Face in 2018 and followed this with Dilruk Jayasinha: Bundle of Joy in 2020.
Trivia
He won the 2018 Logie Award for Graham Kennedy Award for Most Popular New Talent. He competed on the Australian reality show I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! in 2020. He appeared as a contestant on Celebrity MasterChef Australia in 2021. He co-hosted the health and weight-loss podcast Fitbet with fellow comedian Ben Lomas from 2018 to 2023.
Family life
He was born and raised in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and grew up in a culturally diverse household. His father practiced Buddhism, his mother practiced Islam, and he attended a Catholic school.
