Former rugby union footballer who played for Northampton from 1943 to 1961 and was the team captain from 1954 onward. He later coached the English national team and became the President of Northampton Old Scouts RFC.
He attended Wellingborough Grammar School and debuted for Northampton at age seventeen.
In 1969, he became the first-ever coach of the English national team.
His family owned a shoe business in Earls Barton.
He and Steve McNamara both coached the English national team.
