WBA Welterweight Champion from 1983 to 1986 and WBC Super Welterweight Champion from 1988 to 1989. He also became known for various legal troubles.
He achieved 400 victories as an amateur and was the 1980 National Golden Gloves Champion.
He was indicted by Federal Grand Jury on drug conspiracy charges in 1994, and was eventually acquitted of all charges.
He was jailed for failing to pay child support in 1996.
Curiously, he sued boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard for advising him to stay at welterweight rather than move up to middleweight.
