Celebrity chef and winner of Food Network's Iron Chef America. He was also a favorite on season nine of Top Chef: Texas and appeared on the third season of the PBS show The Mind of a Chef. He is also owner of restaurants 610 Magnolia, Milkweed and Succotash.
He began cooking at the age of 11. His interest in food was sparked by his grandmother.
He has been nominated four times for the James Beard Award, which recognizes excellence in cuisine and culinary skills. He has been featured in publications such as Esquire, Bon Appetite, and GQ.
He is of Korean descent but was born in Brooklyn, New York. He graduated magna cum lade with a degree in literature from NYU. He married Dianne Lee in 2010. They had a daughter named Aiden in 2013.
He published his own cookbook called Smoke and Pickles, which received a positive review from celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain.
