He played his college basketball for the Oregon State University Beavers. He ended his playing career with the Beavers in 2014 as the school's all-time leader in blocked shots.

His first year in the NBA was marked with inconsistency due to injury. In December 2015, he underwent surgery to repair a fracture in his foot.
