Before fame

His path began far outside the conventional academic model. At 16, a physics teacher named Nilton recognized his cognitive potential and mentored him. He is the son of Maria Ascenção de Abreu Rodrigues, a Portuguese immigrant, and a Brazilian father of Scottish descent.
