Before fame

He took piano and trumpet lessons as a child growing up in Mobile, Alabama. His dad bought him his first trombone when he was just 12 years old.

Wesley was an adjunct professor at University of North Carolina at Greensboro and taught jazz studies from 2004 to 2006.

He has a daughter named Joya who now manages his tours.
