Scottish concrete poet and artist best known for a 1963 poetry collection entitled Rapel. His numerous artistic designs include Little Sparta (a garden in Lanarkshire, Scotland) and Six Definitions (a sculpture in Edinburgh, Scotland).
He was born to Scottish parents in the Bahamas, and he served in the British Army during World War II.
He decorated his five-acre garden, "Little Sparta," with stone sculptures into which poems were etched.
He married twice and fathered two children.
He and Alan Bold were both Scottish poets.
