Before Fame
He was cast by Gus Van Sant for his film Elephant in 2003 as he wanted local teens to work in his film. He graduated from Oregon Episcopal School in 2005. He then had his big break by being the star in Lords of Dogtown in 2005. He continued appearing in indie films throughout the late 2000s and into the 2010s.
Trivia
He grew up snowboarding and wakeboarding which helped him learn skateboarding for his role in Lords of Dogtown. He learned moves and consulted with the real Z-Boys to ensure the skating felt accurate and authentic in the film. He appears in Big Sur in 2013 which was based on Jack Kerouac's novel.
