Jon Gary Steele

About

Renowned American production designer whose work has included celebrated projects such as the films American History X and Footloose as well as the Netflix drama series The Sandman. He is perhaps best known for his work on the Starz drama series Outlander, where meticulousness as a production designer for the show's first five seasons earned him substantial critical acclaim.  

Before Fame

After his birth in CA, he grew up in Farmington, AK. He first pursued a career in architecture, which he studied at the University of Arkansas. However, he made the decision to transition to the entertainment industry after being inspired by the transformation of local infrastructure for the filming of the mini-series The Blue and the Gray.

Trivia

In 2016, he received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Period Program (One Hour or More) for his work on Outlander.

Family Life

He married producer and writer Barry Waldo on July 11, 1999.
