United States Army Private and recipient of the Purple Heart and the Medal of Honor for his World War II heroism.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in Utah in 1944 and began his assignment with the 3rd Infantry Division.
He acted with great bravery in holding off the enemy in the Battle of Colmar Pocket despite being severely wounded; he died three weeks later from his injuries.
He was born to a Mexican-American family in Gobernador, New Mexico.
He and Marritt Edison both received the Medal of Honor-the most prestigious U.S. military award-for their actions during World War II.
