An American fantasy and romance writer, she is particularly known for her Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter and Merry Gentry series. Her stand-alone works include Strange Candy and Nightseer.

Before fame

She studied English and biology at Marion University. She published her first Anita Blake novel, Guilty Pleasures, in 1993.

A dog lover, she worked with several animal rescue organizations.
