Indian tennis pro and Olympic bronze medalist who turned pro in 1991 and achieved 13 Grand Slam titles by 2013.
He attended La Martiniere Calcutta, Madras Christian College Hr Sec School, Chennai, and the Loyola College, Chennai.
He was born into an athletic family: his father won a 1972 Olympic bronze medal in hockey and his mother was a basketball team captain for India in the 1980 Asian Basketball Championship.
He married Rhea Pillai, with whom he fathered a daughter, Aiyana.
He was defeated by Roger Federer in a doubles match at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
