Letitia Ann James

About

American lawyer, activist, and politician. She is the first woman of color to hold statewide office in New York and in 2018, she became the first woman to be elected to the position of Attorney General of New York. She worked as a public defender before serving as a member of the New York City Council from 2004 to 2013. 

Before Fame

After graduating from Lehman College, she went on to earn her law degree from Howard University. 

Trivia

She aided the Civil Rights Bureau in its investigation of the NYPD's policy of stop-and-frisk. She also cracked down on the gun industry and gun and ammunition retailers, as well as on firms engaged in deceptive and fraudulent business practices. She has garnered 30,000 followers on her newyorkstateag Instagram account, where she posts about current events and community engagement.

Family Life

She was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She is one of eight children born to Nellie and Robert James.

In September 2022, she filed a lawsuit against former President Donald Trump for engaging in financial fraud.
