Irish jazz guitarist who was a member of Ronnie Scott's quartet and quintet for many years. He released his first album, Louis the First, in 1975.
He started an international music career in 1968 when he was awarded a special jury prize at The Montreux International Jazz Festival.
Trinity College Dublin presented him with an honorary doctorate.
Born in Waterford, Ireland, he later moved to Dublin.
In 1994, he worked with George Shearing as a part of the Shearing Trio.
