In 1998, he attended The University of Victoria to pursue creative writing, but quit because he didn't see eye-to-eye with his teachers on the subject of art.
In 2004, he moved to southern Taiwan and began contributing to the Compass Magazine Group. A year later, he furthered his writing by launching Xpat Magazine.
He is a native Canadian who later moved to Salt Lake City, Utah.
He and Amanda Williams have both become known for blogging about their travels.
