Known best for his scientific works Evolution: A Theory in Crisis (published in 1985) and Nature's Destiny (published in 1998), Denton also wrote articles for Nature, the Biochemical Journal, and other prominent publications.
After studying medicine at Bristol University, he earned a doctorate in biochemistry from King's College London.
During the 1990s and early 2000s, he was a biochemistry research fellow at New Zealand's University of Otago.
A native of England, he later made Australia his home.
He influenced the work of intelligent design advocate and fellow writer George Gilder.
