Known for her starring roles in the South Korean films Oasis and A Good Lawyer's Wife, she also appeared in such television series as My Life's Golden Age and The Legend. In 2002 and 2003, she received a total of three Korean Film Awards.
After graduating from Sungkyunkwan University, she joined the Hangang theater troupe. She later made her feature film debut in the acclaimed 2000 movie Peppermint Candy.
She earned a Buil Film Awards Best Actress honor for her role in the 2010 comedy, Ha Ha Ha.
She and her husband, film director Jang Joon-hwan, welcomed their first child, a daughter, in 2011.
She costarred with Song Kang-ho in the 2004 historical film The President's Barber.
