Polish-Lithuanian composer and artist best known for his renowned landscapes and architectural sketches of Europe. He was head of the Italian Opera in Paris.
His membership in the secret student society Zorzanie while he was at the Vilnius University led to his arrest by the Russian secret police on August 27, 1826.
He was honored with a sculpture by Ivan Holubieu that was erected in the town of his burial in 1997.
He was born into the family of an impoverished noble who was also the marshal of the powiat of Kobryn. He married Irene Bougle in Paris.
He studied piano under Franz Liszt.
