American actor who played the role of Lightnin' AKA Willie Jefferson in the popular series Amos and Andy. He claims that he accepted the role only to make money so he could open a theater where African-Americans would be able to play roles other than that of maids and porters.

He began his career in entertainment as a dancer and would later move on to Broadway shows and radio shows where he performed comedy.

Trivia

Some of his film roles include a part in the 1936 picture Go West Young Man as well as a voice role as Br'er Bear in Disney's Song of the South.

Family Life

He was married to Edna Stewart from 1941 until he departed in 2000. He left behind three children.
