Grammy Award-winning Creole accordion player who became the first woman to lead a Cajun zydeco music group. She recorded numerous albums, including Mardi Gras, Zydeco a La Mode, and Back on the Bayou.
When she was a child, she learned to play both the piano and the accordion.
She co-authored a 1990 cookbook entitled Cookin' with Queen Ida.
She grew up in several cities, including Lake Charles, Louisiana, Beaumont, Texas and San Francisco, California.
She and Peter White both had careers as accordion players.
