Democratic politician who became one of the first two Muslim women ever elected to the US House of Representatives with her victory in the 2018 midterms. She became the first Muslim woman elected to any state legislature in 2008 upon her election to the Michigan House of Representatives.
She graduated from Wayne State University with her BA in political science in 1998. She later earned her law degree from the Western Michigan University School of Law in 2004.
She became the first ever Palestinian-American woman elected to Congress with her victory in the 2018 midterm elections. She has been a member of the Democratic Socialists of America.
She and her ex-husband Fayez share two sons named Yousif and Adam.
