She worked as a singer in Manhattan nightclubs in the 1970s and 1980. She was also a voice teacher and songwriter.
Trivia
In 1986, she invented the Scrunchie while preparing for job interviews and trying to protect her brittle hair after having it bleached. She had obtained a design patent and a license, but was unable to manage the large amounts of orders as the product surged in popularity causing her to go out of business. Walmart, Kmart, Target, CVS and Walgreens, who were among the companies manufacturing the copied design, agreed to become licensees and follow the patent.

She was married to John Revson for a year. She married and divorced three more times. She has one son.
