A British author, poet, and compiler of children's fairy tales, she is best known for titles such as A Book of Giants, A Book of Ogres and Trolls, The Growing Trees, and The River Dart. She published nearly one hundred literary works over the course of her career.
She was the daughter of a Unitarian minister, and she moved from Wales to England when she was three years old.
