Over the course of his career as a tenor saxophonist, Reed contributed to recordings by Teddy Pendergrass, Dusty Springfield, Billy Paul, and several other popular musicians and bands.

Before Fame

Early in his career, he was featured on The Silhouettes' 1958 recording "Get a Job."

During the 1970s, he was the go-to saxophonist for recordings produced under the Philadelphia International Records label.

A native of Kinstree, South Carolina, he spent the majority of his life in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
