Turn-of-the-century Lithuanian writer of humanistic and romantic works. She is best known for In the Old Estate and Tragedy of Irka.
She studied at both the University of Fribourg and the University of Zurich.
Her autobiographical novel, In the Old Estate, depicts the family of a Samogitian landlord.
She was born into Lithuanian nobility. She suffered from many childhood ailments and was therefore educated privately at her family's Labunava estate.
She and Czeslaw Milosz were both successful authors from Lithuania.
