Songwriter best known for his song "Listen to the Mockingbird." He also used pseudonyms Alice Hawthorne, Paul Stenton, and several others.
He opened a music shop when he was 20 years old, giving music lessons on many different instruments.
He was posthumously inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970.
He was the son of Joseph and Mary Ann Winner. He and his brother Joseph Eastburn Winner were partners in the music publishing business.
