Rockabilly musician called The Wild Man from Texas who only gained recognition close to two decades after his work debuted. His is a Rockabilly Hall of Fame inductee.
He inherited his love of music through his father, an amateur singer and guitarist, and formed his own country band in 1951.
He retired from singing in 1965, but after interest in vintage rockabilly revived in Europe in the late 1970s, he came back to tour.
He was born in Chandler, Texas.
Growing up, he was influenced by singers like Hank Williams and Roy Acuff, and finally decided on rockabilly after attending an Elvis Presley concert.
