About
Norwegian former biathlete and Olympic champion known for her dominance in World Cup racing and her explosive skiing speed, she earned widespread acclaim as one of the most successful women in biathlon history, winning eight Olympic medals across three Games and capturing the overall Biathlon World Cup title in 2020-21. She is also known for winning 10 World Championship gold medals, multiple discipline globes, and for being a two-time Olympic gold medalist in the mixed relay at Sochi 2014 and Beijing 2022.
Before fame
she began skiing and shooting as a youth. She first became involved in biathlon at a young age and joined the Norwegian national biathlon team in 2008. She made her Biathlon World Cup debut in 2008 which started a long career on the World Cup circuit. She competed at her first Olympic Games in 2014 in Sochi where she won three medals including a gold in the mixed relay, a silver in the women's relay, and a bronze in the mass start. She claimed another World Championship title in 2016. Her best season came in 2020-21 when she won the overall World Cup along with the sprint and pursuit titles and recorded a record 13 individual victories.
Trivia
Her Olympic debut in 2014 yielded three medals in a single Games which is a rare achievement for a first time Olympian. She was awarded the Holmenkollen Medal in 2022 which is one of Norway's highest honors for winter athletes. She won eight Olympic medals across Sochi 2014, PyeongChang 2018, and Beijing 2022. She appeared as a contestant on the Norwegian Dancing with the Stars (Skal vi danse?) in 2025.
Family life
She was born Tiril Kampenhaug Eckhoff. She was born and raised in Bærum, Norway. She comes from a biathlon family, and her older brother Stian Eckhoff is a former biathlete and who eventually served as a coach with the Norwegian team.

She competed for Norway during the same era as Johannes Bo in international biathlon events. She is part of the same Norwegian biathlon legacy as Ole Einar Bjørndalen.
