About

Canadian playwright best known for the play and television series Da Kink in My Hair. She wrote the books How Black Mothers Say I Love You, and Black Girl In Love (With Herself). She founded Trey Anthony Studios, a television and theater production company. Her work was named one of the top-ten plays in Canadian theatrical history, and received 4 NAACP Theatre awards. 

Before Fame

She is of Jamaican descent and was born in London, England. At age 12, she moved to Canada with her mother but was primarily raised by her grandparents. She attended Brampton's Notre Dame High School and went to college at York University.

Awards of hers include the Eve Ensler Award of the Arts, NAACP Theatre Award, Gemini Award, Harry Jerome Award, Egale Canada award, and induction into the Brampton Arts Walk of Fame. She is also a motivational speaker and has done a TEDx talk titled Coming Out of Your Box. She has also become known in the Canadian comedy scene.

Family Life

Her sister got engaged at one of the productions of How Black Mothers Say I Love You. She adopted her son Kai in 2019. Her brother Darren is also a writer.
