Estonian politician and former journalist known for being a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) in Estonia. He is a member of the Reform Party who served as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Culture, and for being a member of the Estonian Parliament from the years 2003 through 2014.
Before Fame
He graduated from the University of Tartu with a degree in political science in 1996. He attended graduate school at the same university, though he never obtained a graduate-level degree. He became a journalist during graduate school. He worked as a journalist until 1999 when he began his career in politics by joining the Reform Party in Estonia.

He is multilingual and speaks several languages including Estonian, German, Finnish, English and Russian. He has been a two-time recipient of the Security & Defence Award at The Parliament Magazine's annual MEP Awards.

He was born and raised in Tallinn, Estonia. He married Tiina Paet in 2005. He has three daughters.
