Uziel Gal

About

German inventor known for creating the Uzi underwater machine gun. He began designing the Uzi submarine gun in the late 1940s after the formation of Israel. It was officially adopted by the Israel Defense Forces in 1951.

Before Fame

Before he began developing the submarine gun, he was arrested for carrying an illegal gun in the British Mandate of Palestine.

Trivia

He was the first person to receive the Israel Security Award for his work designing the Uzi.

Family Life

In 1976, he moved to Philadelphia so his daughter could receive better medical care for her brain damage. 

Associated With

American inventor Samuel Colt also contributed to the arms industry with his invention of the Colt revolver.
