Late schoolteacher who was killed while trying to protect her students during the Sandy Hook school shooting of December 2012. For her heroism, she was posthumously awarded the Presidential Citizens Medal.
She earned Bachelor's degrees in History and Education from Eastern Connecticut State University before attending graduate school at Southern Connecticut State University.
A playground at Long Brook Park in Stratford, Connecticut was named Victoria Soto Memorial Playground in her honor in June 2013.
Her father was a crane operator and her mother was a nurse.
She and five other Sandy Hook teachers and administrators were awarded the Presidential Citizens Medal by President Barack Obama.
