Chinese women's gymnast best known for winning gold medals in four separate categories at the 2014 Asian Games. In 2011, she took home silver in the balance beam at the World Championships in Tokyo.
She made her international debut in 2011 at the Cottbus World Cup.
In 2014, she changed her name from Yao Jinnan to Yao Ziyi due to the fact that "Jinnan" sounds similar to the Chinese term for "too difficult to catch the gold."
She has a twin sister.
She finished third behind American gymnast Jordyn Wieber in the all-around at the 2011 World Championships.
