Formed as one of the charter clubs of the MLS under the name of the New York/New Jersey MetroStars, the club made its first MLS Cup appearance in 2008 and won the Supporters' Shield in 2013 and 2015.
Trivia
The franchise was sold to the Austrian company Red Bull GmbH in 2006, leading to it taking on the current name of the Red Bulls.
